The CVUSD Governing Board April 12 approved the procedures regulating enrollment in the classes.
Both Del Rio Elementary School and Territorial Elementary School will offer kindergarten classes next year.
Under the procedures approved, children must be 5 years of age prior to Sept. 1 to enroll in kindergarten. Parents must supply an official state copy of the child's birth certificate, history of immunization, a document showing their physical address, and the student's social security number to complete his enrollment.
Early kindergarten registration for 2010-2011 at CVUSD starts with the Kindergarten Information Night from 5:30-7 p.m. April 29 at Territorial Elementary School for both schools.
Both Del Rio and Territorial schools will accept registrations from May 3-May 20.
Supt. Duane Noggle said contrary to the district's initial press release, the district will accept all applicants if there is sufficient capacity. Pupils outside the attendance area who are resident transfer pupils on non-resident transfer pupils must complete the district's open enrollment application.
The new procedures say the schools will give enrollment preference to resident transfer pupils in the school the previous year and any sibling enrolling concurrently with such pupils.
He stressed that enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis. If the classes fill up the district will place the children on a standby list in case a vacancy occurs.
Noggle said he made the changes after talking to several parents who had kids in one school or the other, while living in the other school's boundaries, and wanted their next one to be able to go to the same school as their older sibling.
Noggle said the district will keep the classes balanced in the two schools. "We don't want to have 25 in classes in Del Rio and 15 in classes in Territorial," he said.
CVUSD's tuition costs will be $40 a month less than the other two districts because it is on a four-day school week schedule.
He said students who are eligible for free lunch will pay 10 percent of the full tuition rate or $1 a day for full day kindergarten. Students who are eligible for reduced lunch designation will pay 25 percent of the full tuition rate or $2.50 a day for full day kindergarten.
He said because of the district's tight budget, parents must pay a non-refundable deposit of $320 to secure a spot in the full day class.
Anyone having questions about kindergarten registration or resident boundaries should call one of the school offices: Del Rio Elementary at 636-4414 or Territorial Elementary at 636-3842.
