Heritage Middle School students take up Hawaiian instrument
By Kathi Sabot
Chino Valley Review

Hawaii is home to a little member of the guitar family. It has four strings, is small, portable and easy to play.

Last year, John Scholl, Chino Valley Unified School District director of support services, received a gift from his brother in Hawaii - a new ukulele. He found it user-friendly.

"It's very easy to learn to play," Scholl said.

John is now a strumming member of the Prescott Ukulele Guild, and the group made a $200 tax credit donation to Heritage Middle School to purchase instruments for the students.

"We are going to join the guild for a performance at the Chino Hometown Christmas, and open a choir concert at the school," Scholl added.

The Ukulele Club will meet from 4:15-5:45 p.m. the first and third Mondays of the month at Heritage. The first meeting, however, will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, after the Labor Day holiday.

To make a tax credit donation to the Club, or for more information, contact John Scholl at 928-583-5406, or
