Yavapai College Energy Event

Yavapai College presents a free "Get Into Energy" community event on March 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the College's Career & Technical Education Center (CTEC), 220 Ruger Road near the Prescott airport. The event, open to all ages, includes free hot dogs and Pepsi.

The atmosphere will be electric in more ways than one as the College offers contests, prizes and information related to its electric utility and pre-engineering courses. These programs prepare students for well-paying careers in a variety of industries. The event includes a drawing for two $1,000 scholarships for students who enroll in one of the College's electrical programs. Career coaches will be on hand to discuss career options and class offerings.

Guests will be able to try their hands at a robot challenge, motor trainers and targeting drops from cherry picker buckets. Demonstrations include electric utility pole climbing and proper use of "hot stick" tools. Guests who get their electric utility passports stamped at various events will be entered to win prizes. Radio stations KQST and KVRD will be broadcasting live from the event.

Representatives from Arizona Public Service (APS), Salt River Project (SRP) and Tucson Electric Power (TEP) will be present to provide information about job opportunities in the electric utility industry.

For more information about the March 1st event or the technical education programs, call 928-717-7726.
