Child care training conference April 27

The Yavapai Child Care Coalition, a grassroots organization of community members dedicated to early childhood education, puts on a series of conferences every year to bring child care professionals together for support, camaraderie, and training opportunities.

The conferences, which are made possible through support from First Things First, help fulfill the 18 hours of training child care providers need every year. Workshop topics are selected based on the feedback of conference participants - professionals come to learn what they need and want to learn.

In 2012, the Coalition began holding a series of trainings exclusively for early childhood directors and administrators called "Director's Boot Camp." Twice a year, child care directors come together to share their experiences and strengthen their leadership skills.

Child care directors usually wear two hats - the business manager and lead teacher.

"Child care directors are both business leaders and educational leaders," said Kelly McCready, director of Valley Learning Center in Chino Valley and a prominent member of the Yavapai Child Care Coalition. "The Director's Boot Camps were developed to give directors support, training and the opportunity to share ideas through camaraderie."

The next Yavapai Child Care Coalition conference is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., April 27, at the Windy Valley Plaza in Chino Valley. For more information, call Cindy Pemberton at 928-776-0062.
