4/17/2013 7:59:00 AM Education agency offers school safety presentation April 24
The Yavapai County Education Service Agency is pleased to welcome educators, law enforcement, and the public to a free School Safety event at 1 p.m., Wednesday April 24, at the Humboldt School District Office, 6411 N. Robert Road in Prescott Valley.
Meet and hear John Michael Keyes, the father of Emily Keyes, who was killed by a gunman at Platte Canyon High School in Colorado on Sept. 27, 2006. Keyes is a father, speaking from the heart, about that fateful day, and the community response and support for his family and the school. Attendees also will learn of the research he and his wife, Ellen, have done following this tragic event. Hear about the formation of the "I Love You Guys Foundation" (named after the last text message they received from Emily) and the development of the Standard Response Protocol. This protocol, which was designed with full cooperation of law enforcement and the education community, is now in use in Colorado schools and in over 1,000 schools nationwide. The information and easy-to-access materials are all free.
The event also is free. Please RSVP to Laurin Custis at Laurin.Custis@yavapai.us or call 928-442-5138.
For more information about the work of the Foundation, please log into the "I Love you Guys Foundation".
If you have questions about the event, please contact Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter at 928-925-6560.
