Special to the Review
The 65th annual Kiwanis Auction will be from March 25 through April 5.
The auction is the primary fund-raising activity of the Kiwanis Clubs of Prescott and Bradshaw Mountain.
The auction motto "For the Kids of Our Community" sums up the purpose of the auction. The money raised is used to support youth-related activities throughout the Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley areas.
The auction has grown over the last 60 plus years from generating just over $1,000 in 1949 to an ambitious, yet attainable goal of $160,000 in 2013.
More than 90 professional, business and retired members of the Bradshaw and Prescott Kiwanis Clubs from the tri-city area, solicit local merchants, businesses and professionals for donations of merchandise, services, gift certificates and cash.
Special items such as resort and hotel accommodations throughout the state, as well as Hawaii, Mexico, California and Nevada have been donated.
All items are sold during the auction, with bidders placing their bids by telephone and the item going to the high bidder.
Between 150 and 250 items are offered each night. Typical items are restaurant certificates, all imaginable products for the home or office, jewelry, auto-related products or service, and all kinds of artwork.
The auction is "televised live" from 7 to 10 p.m. on Cable Access Channel 13 in the Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley areas. There is also a live video stream on the web at www.prescottkiwanisauction.com, which allows families who don't receive Cable Channel 13 to participate.
Radio coverage is provided by KQNA 1130AM and 99.9FM, downtown Prescott.
On Saturday afternoon, April 6, a final live auction will take place at the Grace Sparks Activity Center to sell any unclaimed merchandised. New items are offered each weeknight for 10 nights.
