He preserves family memories

A few years ago Wil Williams of Paulden came up with the idea of helping people commemorate the life of a family member through living video. He calls these videos "Family Chapters," in which people recall their favorite memories.

"Years ago my sister and I were talking about recording my mother's life, but unfortunately my mother passed away before we could get it done. We were devastated that we weren't able to capture her life on video," Wil said.

When Wil creates these videos, he combines old photos, music, and narration to fashion these special memories that mean the most to people.

"I show up with lights, camera, and microphones to record your memories. You can record your full life story or just special memories that mean the most to you," Wil said.

Will explained that after getting some experience in the production of DVDs, he first approached Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix and offered to record the lives of their patients.

"The patients and their families were very excited to be capturing their life stories. I have now made it a point to focus on World War II veterans, since their histories are disappearing so rapidly," said Wil.

"Another unique aspect of these videos is that the individual has the opportunity to actually give advice to generations of grandchildren they will never meet," he added.

Wil's basic video biographies are usually about an hour in length and the cost is $275, which includes three copies of the DVD with a custom-designed case cover.

"These videos make great Christmas gifts to family members, and this coming Christmas I will be doing a video of my wife's life history," Wil said.

"Of course as with the shoemaker's children I have yet to do my own video biography, but I will someday when I decide what to say," he smiled.

Wil can be reached at 928-910-3549.
