8/21/2013 8:58:00 AM Letter: Hats off to the Yavapai Toy Makers for their gifts to foster children
Over the past year, the Yavapai Toy Makers have provided handmade wooden toys to children entering foster care with our families. We have also given the toys to children whose families visit our Catholic Charities office seeking assistance. It is a little way to bring a little joy and happiness to children in need.
We appreciate this group's generosity. They even created a very special toy replica of the "Hot Shot Buggy" and have given these toys to the children who lost their fathers in the Yarnell fire. They are also making these toys available to all of the children of Yarnell.
This volunteer group of retired men and women from all over Yavapai County started a little over a year ago. They create and donate more than 500 plus toys a month to children who are ill or in need, to help children feel the support of their community and to have a toy to call their own.
In addition to Catholic Charities, the toys go to 14 hospitals and clinics from Flagstaff to Phoenix. The Yavapai Toy Makers are a wonderful group and they are always looking for more volunteers!
The wood for the toys is donated by Ballard Truss Company in Mayer, and that ongoing donation is the key to the continued success of this volunteer effort.
Programs like the Yavapai Toy Makers make a valuable contribution to our community.
