If you read Heidi Dahms Foster's column this past week, you know she's resigned as editor of the weeklies and starts work this week for the Town of Prescott Valley as Communications Relations Coordinator. Although I'm sorry to see her go, I still get to work with her as she sends news releases to me as the brand new News Editor for Weekly Publications, including the Chino Valley Review, Prescott Valley Tribune and Big Bug News, at Prescott Newspapers, Inc.

The community has met me through articles and photos over the past 20 years - many of them covering sports - so it's appropriate that I'm tackling this new position during the football and soccer season. OK, I promise to keep the puns and sports metaphors to a minimum.

But I'm so excited! Covering an area from Paulden to Cordes Junction offers countless opportunities to meet great people and promote wonderful activities. I invite all community members to introduce themselves through phone, email or in person as you see me out and about. Tell me what you want to see in your community newspaper and online in our web sites. I constantly will be seeking to improve our content to suit your interests and ideas.

Since moving to Arizona from the Midwest 27 years ago, I've seen vast changes in this area. Many were for the better. Some, not so much. But focusing on the positive is more productive, and that's what I plan to do with the weeklies. Call me a cockeyed optimist, but I can't help it. People and their history are fascinating. The activities you are passionate about interest me, and I'm sure others share that interest, which is why we have newspapers and the Internet.

Put me in, coach, I'm ready to play.
