Letter: Media blatantly omits, skews facts

For whatever reason, ideas and actions once thought to be unthinkable in our society are now not only thinkable but are being touted and acted upon.

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry stated recently in a promo for the cable network that Americans must "break through the idea that kids belong to their parents," and recognize that "kids belong to whole communities." Leaders such as Stalin, Hitler and Mao used this idea with great success in the creation of their evil societies.

Subtle attacks on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are taking place in our public (government-run) schools. A fourth-grade teacher in Florida had children write in crayon, "I am willing to give up some of my constitutional rights in order to be safer or more secure" as part of a "civics" class.

The media in our country have become so partisan that there are blackouts (with few exceptions) on news events that put unflattering attention on our current administration (the Benghazi attack and Fast & Furious) or abortion (Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortionist on trial for murdering seven babies). I could give more examples but this letter would become a thesis. An active and investigative media has been an American strength but is now a new danger.

As a veteran and citizen, I am concerned about the future of our republic and that of my children and grandchildren. I hope others are concerned as well.
