If you like wind, Wednesday's track & field meet at Bradshaw Mountain High School in Prescott Valley was your scene.

Unless you're into pole vaulting. Or high jumping.

Those two events were canceled due to Wednesday's furious wind gusts all over Yavapai County, but the meet went on otherwise as the Bears played host to Prescott, Chino Valley, Mingus Union and Mayer.

"We thought at one point of canceling the meet just because of the wind," Bradshaw head coach Mike Simon said, "but we got it in."

The Bradshaw girls defended their home course with a score of 107 to capture the team title. Prescott placed second (86) followed by Chino Valley (55), Mingus (26) and Mayer (22).

Prescott clinched the boys' team title with a score of 174. Bradshaw ran second (84) followed by Mingus (20), Chino (18) and Mayer (4).

Not that Wednesday's setting was the best measure of each athlete's wind-draining results.

"You don't think about times on a day like today, it's more about performance and places," Simon added.

"It definitely affected the sprints, especially the 100 and the 100 hurdles and the 110 hurdles. They were running directly into that wind. That not only slowed them down but threw them off their normal rhythm."

Chino Valley has another meet this Saturday at Millennium. The Cougars and Bears will then reunite with Prescott next Wednesday at PHS, and be joined by Camp Verde and Sedona Red Rock at 3:30 p.m.
