Special to the Review

The Chino Valley High School girls' soccer team played host to two of the top teams in Arizona this week, looking to try and climb one spot in the rankings in hopes of making the state tournament.

On Thursday, the Cougar girls fought to a 0-0 tie with River Valley, the state's No. 4 ranked team. Two days later, the Cougars were locked in a 1-1 tie late into the 4th quarter with the state's No. 5 ranked team, from Northland Prep. A late goal left the Lady Cougars on the losing end, and without the much-needed power points.

Chino's goal came when Shelby Shelton capitalized on a penalty kick. The Cougars were led defensively by junior Hunter Stewart Koberstein. Coach Allen Foster said Shelton has been providing good play on both sides of the field, while the offensive attack has been led by freshman Katie Farnsworth.

The Cougars play their final game of the season when they take on the Payson Longhorns on Thursday in Payson.
