Chino Valley splits at tourney

The Cougars closed their run at the Thunderbird Classic at Mohave High School in Bullhead City in style with a walk-off hit on Saturday.

After a loss in the day's opening game, Chino Valley bounced back when Coby Douglas lined a two-out, walk-off base hit in the Cougars' 1-0 win over Lake Havasu. Douglas had two hits in the game.

Pitcher Josh Redfern was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out three as the game was scoreless heading into the last inning.

The day opened for Chino with a 6-3 loss to Mohave.

R.J. Bell, Jeremiah Moeller and Tanner Knight each had an RBI in the effort. Ben Potts was tagged with the loss on the mound, issuing six hits and five walks while striking out four.

Chino Valley, which went 3-1-1 at the tournament, returns home Tuesday to host Ash Fork for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
