While snow blanketed outside, inside Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley on Saturday are high school boys and girls from all over the state who fought for their time in the spotlight. Some were wrestling for the first time and others are finishing their high school careers.
Chino Valley High School wrestlers brought home a 14th place in this year's AIA State Wrestling Finals. Senior Kishan Batcheldor at182 lbs. and sophomore Kody Davis, 113 lbs., made it to the final day of wrestling. Davis lost to Ryan Felipe from Thunderbird High School to put him into the semifinals, fighting for third place. Wrestling Gabriel Cobb from Williams Field High School, Davis fought hard for his third place winning by decision 7-2 and finishing the season with a 34-2 overall record.
Covered in small cuts and bruises, Davis said, "I feel like I have improved this year but I did not capture my goal."
Batcheldor finished his senior year of wrestling with a 40-10 record. He lost in sudden death overtime to Julian Hernandez from Verrado High School with a 3-2 decision to finish fourth in the state in his 182 lb. weight class.
"I am proud of Kody and Kishan for battling back in tough weight classes and both placing for the second time in their high school careers," said Foster. "I am already excited for next year with most of our team coming back with varsity and state experience."
