Chino Valley Review

Chino Valley High's varsity wrestling team defeated Bradshaw Mountain, 56-16, to win the annual Larry Legler Tri-City Cup Jan. 29 at CVHS.

Prescott High chose not to compete for this year's cup because some of its grapplers had contracted staphylococcus infections in the days leading up to the meet.

Earlier in the season, however, the Cougars did edge the Badgers, 39-35, in a dual.

At the Cougars' three-way on Friday, they beat Wickenburg, 38-33, and Mayer, 63-3, but lost to Payson, 31-44.

Friday was the team's Senior Night and they recognized Stockton Heiner (120 pounds), Eric Mannix (170), Sam Heckethorn (182), Carlos Soto (152), and their manager Lindsey Lund.

The Cougars finished the regular season with a 23-14 record and are heading into Sectionals on Saturday and then on to State at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.
