Chino Valley Lady Cougars basketball enjoyed big wins at two home games this past week - Sequoia Charter School, 45-15, on Thursday night, and against Grand Canyon, 41-22 on Saturday.

In the Sequoia game, Shelbey Shelton made 21 points and 8 rebounds; Caitlyn Ballard scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds and steals; Sable Padilla made 5 points and 11 rebounds; Mariah Hall had 3 points; Giselle Chinchilla made 2 points; and Ricky Rodriguez had a point, 5 assists, 6 steals and 5 rebounds.

Against Grand Canyon, Ballard had 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals; Shelton, 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals; Padilla added 8 points, 13 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Grand Canyon game also was the Lady Cougars' Senior Night. Head coach April Jelovic praised her three seniors.

"Caitlyn Ballard has been a team leader, top scorer, and will be truly missed. Chelsey Ludwig was becoming an outstanding forward for the team before dislocating her shoulder right after Christmas, making her out for the season. Abbey Shelton tore her ACL during soccer and was unable to play this year, but she still has been an invaluable member of the team and a great leader off the court for the younger players."

Jelovic talked about her players' determination.

"I am very proud of these girls this season. With key girls out with injury and illness, these girls have not given up and worked to get better every game. I have truly enjoyed working with these girls and am excited about the future."

The Lady Cougars play tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in Glendale.
