Chino Valley Review

The Chino Valley High boys' basketball team experienced a tough week on the road while playing three ranked schools in Division 3 Section 3.

Phoenix Cortez, Chandler Valley Christian and Flagstaff Northland Preparatory Academy are ranked in the top four.

With CVHS losses in each, final scores were: 78-24 at Cortez Jan. 14; 85-19 to Valley Christian game Friday; and 72-26 Saturday against Northland Prep.

Although the Cougars were badly outscored, the playing attitude remains determined, strong and tough, head coach Chuck Smith said.

"Team attitude, player chemistry and team unity continues to be challenged with each week while being faced against the state's top ranked teams," Smith stated. "The leadership and blend of four seniors and seven underclassman is a week-to-week growing experience that searches for consistent day-by-day individual offensive and defensive play."

The lone experienced varsity player is senior point guard Jeremiah Moeller. Senior Pat Shepherd joins Moeller in the backcourt as the only other player that split experience and playing time last year with the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams.

Seniors Brenden Redfern and Joe Keller join with seven underclassman round out varsity.

Games this week:Wednesday at home versus Chandler Prep at 7 p.m., Thursday at Sedona Red Rock and a Saturday home game with Ash Fork at 5:30 p.m.
