Mayer concluded its own two-day, round robin Wildcat Christmas Tournament with an 0-4 record after sustaining two losses on Saturday.
Wildcats coach Clint Cross said his team started both games sluggishly before trying to mount comebacks to no avail.
In a 67-53 loss to Ray, Nick McElroy paced Mayer with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Dillon Darges had 11 points and six boards. Chandler Gutierrez and Shawnee Day chipped in with eight points each.
Then falling 43-38 to Chino Valley, the Wildcats trailed 14-2 in the second quarter prior to closing the gap to 21-17 at halftime. Down by 10 in the fourth, Mayer tied the game at 36-36, but the Cougars closed it out on a 7-2 run.
Gutierrez, McElroy, Day and Joseph Williams scored six points apiece for the Wildcats in the losing cause.
Next up, Mayer (2-10 overall record) visits Tempe Prep at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a Division 4, Section 4 tilt.
