Dr. Carl and Helen Hartmann, of Chino Valley, celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. They were married Nov. 30, 1941. They started dating when they were both 13-years-old.

Both were born and raised in New Jersey. They came to Arizona in 1944 for Carl to train in desert conditions for WWII. They both attended and graduated from 4-year colleges, Helen from Upsala College in New Jersey and Carl from the University of Missouri.

Helen ran the Hartmann School in New Jersey. Following Carl's retirement from Union Carbide, he became a chiropractor. He graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic at the age of 63.

They have four children, Carl Jr. (67), Jeff (65), Peter (63) and Heide Hartmann-Taylor (58); six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.
