Chino Valley man missing after NM floods

State police in New Mexico said Thursday they are continuing their search for a missing Chino Valley man after heavy flooding in the area on Monday.

Howard Bassett, 83, was vacationing in New Mexico's Catron County on Saturday when he was forced to evacuate the Silver Creek Inn with other lodgers. Howard reportedly left the area in his orange Chevy Colorado. On Monday, state police were notified that Howard never returned to the inn after the evacuation.

Air and ground crews began a search and rescue operation on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, search crews located Bassett's truck, covered in gravel and silt, in a ravine. Bassett was not located in the area, according to Emmanuel Gutierrez, spokesperson for the New Mexico State Police.

Regina Williams, Bassett's housesitter, said Bassett was expected back in Chino Valley Monday night.

"His daughter from Sierra Vista went there Tuesday morning to help with the search," Williams said.
