Chino Valley High School students, teachers and staff, along with much of the community, are grieving over the death this past Thursday of senior, Kalen Earle, shown accepting his Prom King crown from art teacher, Aubrey Garcia, on April 26. He died after a nine-month battle with cancer that started with a malignant tumor on his shoulder. Students made this plastic cup "We Love Kalen" sign in the tennis court fence, visible from Highway 89 at the high school on Center Street.

Quotes about Kalen:

"Kalen was amazing! I think he gave me everything anyone could ever want, and the best two years of my life. I was supposed to be the love of his life during that time. He was my best friend, and gave me ultimate happiness. I know he'll always be with me because he promised me he would." Asha Rusling, Kalen's girlfriend.

"The whole Earle family has been incredible and generous in sharing and the giving of their son to the teenagers of Chino Valley. Their home has always been open to them to go and see and visit Kalen during his illness. I don't know that I would have been able to be that generous if it was my son.

Kalen passed away at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning and the family requested a private time with just their family, but by 11 o'clock the house was full of people again, bringing food to help and to grieve with them.

I have learned a lot from them; they are incrediable with their love,

Kathy Rafters, family friend Kalen's former employer

"I met Kalen my first year of teaching art class. We developed a really strong bond. He became the Vice President of my National Art Honor Society. Kalen was talented in art, music and athletics, and he was very dedicated and a true leader. I got to know him and his family and he was such a great kid. He was so curious about everything and really valued life. I was his teacher, but I think he taught me more than I taught him. He was

such a good role model."

Aubrey Garcia, art teacher/student counselor, and close friend

"For me, watching Kalen's life, I got to witness a miracle this week -Kalen decided to believe in the Lord on Tuesday, and he went to meet Him on Thursday."

Chris Hunter, teacher of the Cougar Academic Team, who, along with many others, prayed for Kalen
