Some of these children will be talking, playing, chatting on the phone or to friends, and undoubtedly texting. They won't be looking out for us. While we can lecture them about safety, we need to remember that they are children, and we are the adults. The burden for their safety remains on us.
Please remember during the school year to keep an careful eye out for children walking or on bikes. Give them plenty of room, and expect them to occasionally do the unexpected. After all, they are children.
Another way we can protect our children is to keep our eyes open for any suspicious people or activities. If it looks out of place or makes you uncomfortable, call the Chino Valley Police. Call 911 if the need is urgent.
A little extra vigilance will help our children have a safe, productive school year.
