An elderly woman was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital Thursday morning after being injured while using accelerants to burn weeds. She is the second person in 10 days to suffer such burns.
Chino Valley Fire spokesman Rob Zazueta said the woman was flown to Maricopa Burn Center in serious condition after sustaining burns to her hand, chest and face.
Another Chino Valley woman, 42, suffered severe burns on Aug. 18 after trying to start a controlled burn with accelerants. Chino Valley Fire crews found the woman with critical burns on a large part of her body.
They treated her before she also was airlifted to Maricopa Burn Center.
"Please be safe when burning yard materials and follow parameters that are displayed on the permit. The use of any accelerants is very dangerous and must be avoided," Zazueta said.
