The Paulden Area Community Organization (PACO) has simple goals for 2014 and expects widespread results for the community and its residents.

PACO President Jane Anderson said that one goal she and the board want to see in 2014 is more participation from residents at the PACO meetings, which are at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month, at the Paulden Community Center, 24050 Marblehead Avenue, near the corner of Highway 89 and Big Chino Road in Paulden.

The board invites guest speakers to each meeting who have important information for Paulden residents, Anderson said.

For example, more people could have met new Chino Valley Fire District Chief Scott Freitag at the Jan. 2 meeting and asked questions about such issues as fire district boundaries, fire protection contracts or other issues.

"My house is in the district, but the whole field across from me is not," Anderson said. This is information many Paulden residents still need to know, she said.

PACO also has scheduled law enforcement guest speakers coming to its Feb. 6 meeting from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, Department of Public Safety and the FBI to talk about crime statistics in Paulden.

In addition, in 2014 PACO hopes to set up a Town Hall meeting with U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, from the 4th District of Arizona, at which he would present a current topic and open it up to the audience for questions and answers.

A goal PACO started in 2013 and wants to complete in 2014 is for Paulden to get its first library through the Yavapai County Free Library District with a block grant from the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors. PACO has a petition signed by 600 residents to present to the BOS.

Also an ongoing project is PACO's "Salute to Vets" plaque hanging in the Paulden Community Center. Names of veterans living in Paulden are added to the plaque, so PACO wants people to contact them to submit a name.

To submit a veteran name, suggest a guest speaker, or learn more about PACO, people can call 928-458-5106, e-mail support@pauldenarea.info, visit the website at http://pauldenarea.info or visit PACO's Facebook page.

And lastly, Anderson said residents have been happy with the addition of a new business in town this past year, the Family Dollar store. She said the store manager reports excellent sales, especially in December, and joked that some shoppers came in five times a day.
