A Chino Valley family lost their home to a large fire on New Year's Day. Chino Valley Fire spokesman Rob Zazueta said crews arrived at the residence off Road 5 North, west of Highway 89, and found the garage fully engulfed in flames and the home filled with smoke.

Zazueta said the homeowners had evacuated the home before firefighters' arrival. The fire extended into the upper floor of the house before crews could put it out. Five engine companies responded to the fire, including crews from Prescott and Central Yavapai Fire.

Central also moved into Chino to cover the area during the fire through an automatic aid agreement that allows crews to move beyond their boundaries during large scale incidents, Zazueta said. During that time, Central responded to an injury accident on Highway 89 in south Chino Valley that sent three people to the hospital.
