A Thanksgiving morning fire damaged this home.

A carport fire forced a Chino Valley family from their home on Thanksgiving Day, but firefighters were able to save the structure. Chino Valley Fire District spokesman Rob Zazueta said the fire, which started in the early morning, appears to have originated in the home's carport. Firefighters aggressively worked to stop the fire from spreading into the house, he said.

Zazueta said the fire burned the electric meter box, and smoke damage inside the house was enough to make the home uninhabitable until building inspectors could investigate.

TIP volunteers and the Chino Valley Firefighters Foundation provided assistance the family, who made plans to stay with relatives.

Chino Valley police officers also were on scene to secure the property, Zazueta said.
