11/7/2012 9:03:00 AM Deadline approaching for Elks Scholarship applications
Special to the Review
The deadline for the The Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student scholarships is Dec. 7, and all local high school graduating seniors are invited to apply.
The Elks National Foundation awards $3.6 million annually in college scholarships to 500 high school seniors nationwide through the Most Valuable Student contest.
The ENF will award 18 top scholarships ranging from $8,000 to $60,000. The remaining 482 runners-up will receive $4,000 scholarships.
Applicants for the Most Valuable Student Scholarship do not need to be related to a member of the Elks. Males and females compete separately, and are judged in scholarship, leadership and financial need. Winners will be announced in late April, 2013.
Applications for the Most Valuable Student Award are available at the Chino Valley High School counselor's office, or students may download applications and instructions from the website at www.elks.org/scholarship.
Most Valuable Student applications must be postmarked by Dec. 7, 2012.
The Elks also provide Legacy Award Scholarships for seniors who are children or grandchildren of Elk members in good standing. Those applications are available online only this year at www.elks.org/scholarship. This year the State of Arizona's Elks are slated to receive seven Legacy awards. Deadline for Legacy applications is Feb. 1, 2013.
The Arizona Elks Association also offers two additional scholarships to seniors who live in Arizona - the Vocational/Technical Scholarship and the Special Needs Scholarship. Both of these applications with instructions also are available at the high school Counselor's office, or online at www.azelks.org. Link to Committees, then Youth Activities and then Scholarships. Vocational/Technical Scholarships and Special Needs Scholarship applications must be postmarked by Jan. 10, 2013.
The Chino Valley Elks Lodge also awards some scholarships based on the above applications.
Send all scholarship applications other than Legacy applications to Jan Casacchia, Lodge Scholarship Chair, Chino Valley Elks Lodge #2842, 1434 Stratford Place, Chino Valley, AZ 86323.
