The Old Humboldt Spring Fair and Horse Race is looking for more participants in the horse race as well as the foot race scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, May 26, at the old railway siding on Prescott Street, Humboldt.
The horse race is a 500-foot sprint, almost the length of two football fields. "Old Blue" or "Barnyard Joe" would do just fine in this race, with local quad-city men, women and teen riders. All entrance fees ($20) will be used for first-, second- and third-place prizes. T-shirts go to all entrants. All winners' and entrants' names will be included on a plaque in the new Dewey-Humboldt Historical Museum. Each rider must sign a liability waiver and show proof they have an insurance policy.
The foot race is almost two miles long through the streets of Humboldt beginning at 8 a.m. on upper Main Street in front of the Historical Museum. Entrance fee is $5 for children, $15 for adults. Prizes go to first- through third-place winners of both the children and adult races. T-shirts go to the first 15 entrants in each of the children and adult races. All entrants must sign a liability waiver.
At 2 p.m. on Sunday, the Western Boot Race begins on Main Street, Humboldt. Entrance is free for all ages with prizes for first through third place winners in children and adult categories.
